For organisations

Ready-made independence work your staff can pick up and use

Kithstep gives your team short, practical activities for key-work sessions, with a record of what the young person said and decided. Less time making your own worksheets, more time actually doing the work.

Created by a children's residential support worker, so it's built around the way sessions really happen: short, flexible and led by the young person.

What it means for your team

  1. 1

    Less prep

Print a sheet and go. Every activity takes about 20 minutes and comes with notes on how to start the conversation.

  2. 2

    Clear evidence

Completed sheets and the progress record show what was covered, in the young person's own words, ready for pathway plan reviews.

  3. 3

    Everyone on the same page

The whole team uses the same eight packs, so a young person gets consistent support whoever is on shift.

Linked to pathway plan areas

Activities sit under the areas you already plan around: accommodation, money, relationships, education and work, and practical skills. Easy to point to in a review.

The young person's voice

Every activity leaves space for the young person to say what they think, in their own words. That's the part reviewers and inspectors want to see.

A simple record of progress

A completed sheet shows what was covered, when, and what happens next. File it, scan it or use it to update a plan.

Notes for staff

Short guidance for the worker: how to open the conversation, what to watch for, and when to stop and follow your own procedures.

Works for different needs

Plain English, visual layouts and short tasks. Every pack also comes in large print and a screen-reader Word version, and audio or braille can be arranged.

Contacts and helplines built in

Every pack ends with a page for the young person's own people and professionals, and a page of checked UK helpline numbers.

New material each term

Subscribers get new worksheets three times a year, so there's always something fresh for the young people you've worked with for a while.

To be clear about what Kithstep is: it's a practical teaching resource. It isn't accredited, endorsed by Ofsted or a substitute for your own policies, assessments and safeguarding procedures.

The free pilot

Three months free for five services

We're inviting five services to use the Setting plan free for three months. You get every pack and unlimited printing for your whole team.

In return, we'd like:

  • A short feedback form at the end (about 10 minutes)
  • Honest thoughts on what worked and what didn't
  • A quote we can share, but only if you're happy to give one

Kithstep is new, and the pilot is how we make sure it works in real services before it grows. There's no obligation to carry on afterwards. If you do, you'll keep the pilot price when new prices come in.

Who it's for

  • Leaving-care teams
  • Supported accommodation providers
  • College SEND and foundation learning
  • Fostering agencies
  • Youth services

Services in Lancashire and the North West are especially welcome, but anywhere in the UK can apply.
